Alpha Pi Chapter of Clark–Atlanta University Steps to Victory with Creative Routine By Veronica Williams-Mosley - Rho Psi Omega chapter In an electrifying display of talent and acrobatics, members of Clark-Atlanta University Alpha Pi Chapter stepped to victory during the second Sprite Step Off’s regional qualifying competition. The event was held in Charlotte, North Carolina at the Grady Cole Center. Victorious in the first round of competition, the Alpha Pi Chapter claimed a $5,000 prize and participated in a service challenge –and secured first bragging rights for the 2011 competition. The team will compete in the national championship on May 21, 2011 in Washington, DC. Competing against ladies from Sigma Gamma Rho, Zeta Phi Beta and Tau Beta Sigma, the talented and lovely ladies of Alpha Kappa Alpha wowed the crowd. The stage setting included a pink and green teepee and a tribal Ivy Drum. The ladies wore pink and green tribal war facial paint and were adorned in brown tribal dresses fringed in pink and green. The ladies presented an act that included the Drums of War; It’s a Serious Matter and gave tribute to other members of the Divine Nine. The talented Alpha Pi team included Zita Pratt, Jacarie Cuyler, Camesisha Clark, Teraneshia Nash, Bronica Banks, Dyonique Garrison, Fatima Jalloh and Zuri Harris. Team members competing in the step contest spent the morning participating in a community service event to teaching local children at the Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club steeping moves. |
