Sorority Wins Prize from Ebony Fashion Fair for Highest National Attendance

Award includes thousands of dollars in prizes and commendations

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority was heralded as the “national organization with the highest attendance” for the 49th annual Ebony Fashion Fair. With impressive numbers generated through AKA-hosted events, the Sorority bested all sororities, fraternities, the UNCF, NAACP and Links, Incorporated chapters that host the show.

For this distinction, AKA will be:

• presented an honor and commendation at its Centennial International Conference in July 2008;

• awarded a donation of $5,000 from Johnson Publishing Company to be presented at its Centennial International Conference in July 2008;

• gifted with a copy of Ebony and Jet and Fashion Fair Cosmetics items for all attendees at a marquee event.

In addition, a representative from Ebony Fashion Fair’s national headquarters will honor AKA’s International President Barbara A. McKinzie with a plaque.

In announcing the award, Staci R. Collins Jackson, Johnson Publishing Company's assistant vice president and director of corporate affairs, who oversees all operations of the Ebony Fashion Fair said, “The highest overall attendance award is one of Ebony Fashion Fair’s highest honors. We salute the members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. for attaining such a phenomenal achievement. Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. has once again displayed a strong commitment to community service and fundraising via the Ebony Fashion Fair.”

McKinzie said the Sorority is honored to have won the top prize in this category. She said that hosting the Ebony Fashion Fair has been one of AKA’s favorite fundraising activities because it combines scholarship with an enchanting evening viewing the latest fashions by the world’s foremost organization.

“It’s a partnership that has grown through the years because it is an excellent fundraising vehicle. Because of this, we consistently outpace all organizations and will continue to do so because of the enthusiasm among our members,” declared McKinzie.
