Campus leader is one of 51 chosen from 20 states

On the heels of her recent election as the International 2nd Vice President of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Ranika M. Sanchez is one of 51 campus leaders and women of color enrolled at independent colleges from 20 states chosen to participate in the prestigious Kellogg Collegiate Women of Color Leadership Institute.

Ranika was selected based on the qualities that have propelled her to leadership within Alpha Kappa Alpha: her academic record and her leadership achievements. She also earned high praise from referrals and crafted a winning essay as part of the application process.

The Institute's yearlong program will serve as a platform where Ranika will acquire tools and sharpen and fine-tune her leadership abilities. The overall thrust will expose her to a learning experience that will prepare her to be a future leader.

Her determination to succeed is underscored by the fact that Loyola was victim to Hurricane Katrina. Undaunted by these dire circumstances, she prevailed.

Of this achievement, International President Barbara McKinzie declared, "Ranika Sanchez is one of the nation's rising stars. She has already blazed a path that is putting her on a success track, and Alpha Kappa Alpha is honored to provide a forum where she can reach new leadership heights. Knowing that someone of her caliber, passion and commitment is poised to one day seize the leadership reins gives us confidence and hope. I speak on behalf of our 185,000 members in showing pride and offering congratulations to her."
