President's Message

Barbara McKinzie

Barbara McKinzie

Happy 100th Birthday Alpha Kappa Alpha!

It is with pride that we mark this milestone in our history. It is historic in its sheer length, but even more significant when considering the qualities that have sustained us for a century.

These qualities are sisterhood and service.

It is a sisterhood that has endured because of the Energy, Sincerity and Passion we bring to all of our pursuits.

In every corner of the world, Alpha Kappa Alpha has been a significant force and powerful advocate. We’ve helped the less fortunate, championed on behalf of causes dear to those we serve and been change agents.

Our good works and good deeds are even more remarkable because we have done so under the banner of

ONE SISTERHOOD!

It is….

A sisterhood committed to nurturing and developing leadership skills.

A sisterhood that knows service is the result of strength and truth.

A sisterhood loyal to the realization of its mission and purpose, gifts from our Founders.

A sisterhood open to transforming its power for global good.

A sisterhood that embraces technology and uses it for service to mankind.

A sisterhood that left its fear of change in its first 100 years.

A sisterhood that is a steward of preservation and growth.

A sisterhood that knows very few things last 100 years—companies, churches, governments, countries, children, parents, sisters, brothers and friends have expired in the past 100 years, yet—

On the bedrock of service, ALPHA KAPPA ALPHA has withstood the test of time. We remain committed to the vision born of our founders on January 15, 1908. It is a vision fair that was so resilient that, on January 15, 2008, we were able to assemble thousands of members who walked the sacred paths of our foremothers. And, as we reflect on their journey and the challenges ahead, we do so with pride and love of our Sorority and our Sisterhood.
