Nashville, TN and Huntsville, AL Chapters Focus on Entrepreneurship

Kappa Lambda Omega Chapter in Nashville, TN is focusing on the Non-Traditional Entrepreneur through its "Entrepreneur of the Month" program. The initiative spotlights a member entrepreneur and features an article in the Chapter newsletter. Members have an opportunity to learn the details of the services and products of the business. The selected member also has an opportunity to display her business at the Chapter's meeting and may offer free consultation or product samples to highlight her business.

In Huntsville, AL, Epsilon Gamma Omega Chapter is sharing "A Taste of Success" providing networking opportunities for non-traditional entrepreneurs to gain exposure within the community. Throughout the event, featured vendors receive oral promotions every 15 minutes. In addition, other non-traditional entrepreneurs in attendance gain access to new markets and share information regarding their products and services.


Montgomery, AL Chapter Empowers Youth

We all know that children are our future, and Beta Nu Omega Chapter (Montgomery, AL) is making sure that the smallest among us are prepared with the Economic Keys to Success.

Through the Chapter's "Empowering the Little Ones" program, members are focused on educating and sharing important information on financial planning and money management.

As part of their efforts, these members not only read Dr. Seuss books to children to encourage a love of books and reading, but they also provide "Dr. Seuss Bills." This creative currency is given to the children who spend the bills at the Seussville Literacy Store. The children are able to purchase educational books, games and puzzles with their special dollars and learn firsthand how to exchange money for goods as a basic economic lesson.


The Black Family Is Examined through Memphis Chapter Project

The strength of the Black community hinges on the viability of the family, and so Beta Epsilon Omega Chapter in Memphis, TN is taking the Economic Growth of the Black Family very seriously.

Recent studies have shown that African American girls do not identify with dolls that look like them as their preference when choosing the ones they want to be like. To combat low self-esteem and self-image issues, the Chapter organized an African American Doll Collection Drive donating over 100 dolls benefiting patients at Le Bonheur Children's Medical Center.


Undergraduates Mentor Seniors through Technology Project

With all the talk of bridging the gap between the generations, one of South Eastern's undergraduate Chapters has figured out that technology might be a good place to start.

In Jackson, MS, the Gamma Rho Chapter at Jackson State University has been a leader in implementing a very successful Undergraduate Signature Program: Economic Educational Advancement through Technology. These members developed the "Senior Citizens and Technology" service project in which they have secured computers used in the community to train seniors about the world of technology.

Among some of the topics during the training included, "How to Use the Internet" and "How to Manage Your Finances Online."


Juvenile Obesity Drives Valley Grande, AL Chapter’s "My Body, My Future" Program

Zeta Eta Omega Chapter in Valley Grande, AL is focusing on physical and mental fitness as part of the Health Resource Management and Economics platform. Through its two-year "My Body: My Future" program, the Chapter is honing in on juvenile obesity, working with youth in grades 2 through 12.

At their monthly meetings, the students participate in workshops and activities providing information on healthy eating, proper exercise and positive self-image.
